Joseph A. Tunzi é profundo conhecedor e pesquisador da música e vida de Elvis Presley. Renomada autoridade da obra gravada do cantor, os três volumes de sua "sessionografia" Sessions I, II e III estão entre os mais respeitáveis e recomendados livros pelos estudiosos do legado musical de Elvis Presley.
Também é autor de vários livros de fotos bem como DVDs , entre eles Hot Shots And Cool Clips que inclui filmagens raras.
Tivemos o prazer de conduzir esta entrevista com o Sr. Tunzi, onde ele partilhou informações muito interessantes sobre canções e filmagens inéditas, rumores, a busca sem fim por qualquer pedaço inédito de Elvis e o que o futuro guarda para nós. Esperamos que gostem.
I-Canções Inéditas, soundboards, ensaios e os "rumores"
ECB: Joseph, existem vários soundboards da turne de Elvis em Junho de 1975 e muito provavelmente, todos os shows desta turnê foram gravados. Entretanto, nenhum soundboard da turne seguinte, Julho, foi até agora lançado. Não parece estranho que uma vez que todos os shows da turnê anterior foram gravados, que o mesmo aconteria com a turnê de Julho? Estariam esses soundboards na mão de colecionadores particulares que não se interessam em partilhar informações?
Joseph Tunzi: Sim, seria estranho, uma vez que os shows de Junho foram gravados, porque não os de Julho? Mas não é impossível que isso tenha acontecido e várias razões são possíveis. Acredito entretanto, que esses shows foram sim gravados e obtive informações, em mais de uma ocasião e de fontes confiáveis, de que estes shows foram realmente gravados.
ECB: Você menciona o show de Ashville 1975 como um soundboard incompleto no livro Sessions III. Este soundboard estaria com colecionadores particulares? Qual seria a qualidade sonora deste tape?
Joseph Tunzi: Asheville 75 seria considerado incompleto e acredito que esteja com colecionadores particulares.
ECB: Você acha que devemos, de certa forma, desistir de um dia encontrar o soundboard de Pittsburgh 1976?
Joseph Tunzi: Não acho que devamos desistir do soundboard de Pittsburgh de maneira alguma. Não até que todos os soundboards sejam catalogados. As pessoas devem ter em mente que muitas pessoas ficavam com esses tapes dos shows. Uma noite era o engenheiro, na outra Felton Jarvis, as vezes algum fã sortudo e outras pessoas em ocasiões diversas.
ECB: Você acredita que talvez existam cópias de segurança dos tapes das sessões de estúdio da década de 50, cujos masters originais foram destruídos? Poderiam esses tapes estarem em coleções particulares?
Joseph Tunzi: Não acredito que existam cópias de segurança dessas sessões. Podemos ficar imaginando o que aconteceu com esses tapes, mas infelizmente e muito provavelmente, eles foram destruídos ou jogados fora quando a RCA fez uma "limpeza" em seus arquivos.
ECB: E sobre a comentada canção Uncle Pen, supostamente do período Sun?
Joseph Tunzi: Ele talvez a tenha cantado ao vivo, mas não acredito que ela tenha existido, em qualquer formato.
ECB: Elvis fez muitas perfomances que foram transmitidas pelo rádio na década de 50. Você acredita que talvez algumas dessas transmissões tenham sido gravadas em acetatos e estejam nos arquivos dessas estações de rádio, sem que seus administradores tenham conhecimento?
Joseph Tunzi: Éssa é uma excelente pergunta, porque se existem chances de encontrarmos mais gravações da década de 50, ela pode estar nos antigos arquivos dessa estações de rádio. Ou com algum dos antigos diretores de programação que trabalharam lá. Isso exigiria uma tediosa pesquisa.
ECB: Na seção de "Rumores" de seu livro Sessions III, você afirma que: " Existem rumores de que uma balada previamente desconhecida, dos anos 60 ou 70 foi localizada. Essa gravação pode ser caseira." Alguma informação adicional apareceu após a publicação do seu livro?
Joseph Tunzi: Essa gravação e a informação que mais tarde obtivemos, revelou-se ser uma das canções caseiras que haviamos listado. É uma gravação de melhor qualidade de Let Me Be The One. Foi com certeza absoluta gravada e é excelente.
Joseph Tunzi´s Sessions III
ECB: Durante as sessões no estúdio Stax, em 1973, Elvis tentou várias vezes a canção "We Had It All". Supostamente após várias tentativas, Presley desistiu dizendo que não conseguiria melhorar a canção. Ersnt afirma que possui todos os tapes da sessão e neles não ha esta canção. Entretanto, ele descreve o diálogo de Elvis no seu livro A Life In Music. Você acredita que podemos assumir que em algum momento, essa performance foi ouvida por Ernst?
Joseph Tunzi: Não posso falar por Ernst, ele nos leva a acreditar nisso em seu comentário, mas ele está tentando contar uma história, então o que mais ele pode fazer? Se ele tivesse essa canção, acho que ele ja a teria usado.
ECB: Você também comenta em seu livro que " Mais do que um rumor, embora não listada na seção principal, é o tape contendo uma "Jam Session" com Elvis e Tom Jones. É provável que tenha sido gravada em Los Angeles e inclui a canção "With These Hands". Poderia nos dar mais alguma informação a respeito desta gravação?
Joseph Tunzi: De acordo com o fotógrafo Peter Borsari, ele lembra-se de Elvis e Tom Jones cantando "With These Hands" juntos. Tom Jones admite que essa jam session dele com Elvis foi filmado ou por Priscilla ou por Joe Esposito. Mas Priscilla não consegue encontrar o filme.
ECB: O eterno debate sobre "Feelings": É seguro dizer que Elvis tentou a canção várias vezes durante as sessões em Graceland. Entretanto, a canção nunca foi ouvida. Em 2004 , enquanto fazia apresentações no Brasil, Morris Albert ( o compositor da canção) divulgou em diversos canais da imprensa que a RCA/BMG lhe contactou para resolver questões legais pertinentes ao lançamento da canção na voz de Elvis. Você acredita que Morris fez isso apenas por autopromoção? E se a canção existe, poderia ela estar nos microcassetes de David Briggs? (Luiz Henrique Costa Gonçalves)
Joseph Tunzi: Se Fellings existe e a RCA/BMG contactou Morris Albert, os fios estão cruzados em algum lugar... Fellings foi ensaiada em 8 de Fevereiro e talvez esteja nos microcassetes de David Briggs, mas muito provavelmente não foi gravada profissionalmente. Pode também ter sido apagada, assim como America, The Beautiful.
ECB: Na página 554 do livro Sessions III existe uma cópia do que parece ser uma lista com vários tapes com material entre 1971 a 1977 e entre eles um ensaio de 16/05/1974, no estúdio da RCA. Seria essa lista um documento do que existe nos arquivos da RCA?
Joseph Tunzi: Este documento vem de Joan Deary ( Nota: executiva da RCA na época, já falecida). O ensaio é de 16/08/1974 e todos os tapes estão de posse da RCA.
CB: Você poderia nos dar mais informações a respeito das canções "Stormy Monday Blues", "Out Left In The Field" e "It Will Be Me", supostamente do final de 1976?
Joseph Tunzi: Isso é interessante e através de mais pesquisas desde Sessions III, acredito que Elvis se interessou realmente em gravar essas canções durante as sessões de Fevereiro em Graceland. Em 1976, documentos da RCA mostravam que estas canções estariam em seu novo álbum. Estes são três das dez canções que eu lembro, as outras quatro ou cinco não me eram familiares e algumas foram obviamente gravadas, mas o mistério está se resolvendo.
ECB: Você acredita que exista ou tenha existido,alguma tape documentando a jam session dos Beatles com Elvis? (Evandro Posser)
Joseph Tunzi: Nenhum tape com gravações dos Beatles com Elvis existe. É um fato que ambos os empresários concordaram em não permitir nenhum tipo de gravação ou fotos.
ECB: Você publicou uma lista muito interessante de tapes contendo ensaios no livro Sessions III. Como você conseguiu esta informação e alguma informação adicional desses tapes apareceu após a publicação do livro?
Joseph Tunzi: Esta informação provém de várias fontes, mas a principal advém da coleção do Coronel Parker, que agora está de posse da EPE.
ECB: Você já ouviu algum desses tapes e se sim, qual lhe chamou mais atenção? A BMG estaria de posse de algum desses tapes? (Renan Ruiz)
Joseph Tunzi: Alguns desses tapes estão com colecionadores particulares. Isso é o que essas pessoas me falaram e não acho que estariam mentindo.
ECB: Durante as filmagems de G.I. Blues, o presidente do Brasil teria conhecido Elvis nos bastidores. Tentamos localizar informações sobre esse encontro em nossa imprensa local, mas tudo o que foi publicado é muito obscuro e sem provas documentais. Você se deparou com alguma informação ou documentação desse possível encontro?
Joseph Tunzi: Não, mas diria que pode ser verdade. O melhor a fazer seria entrar em contato com a EPE a respeito deste assunto. Eles possuem várias fotografias de Elvis nos sets de G.I. Blues com várias celebridades.
ECB: Você acredita que existam fotos das sessões de estúdio em 1973 e Graceland em 1976?
Joseph Tunzi: Sim, existem fotos da sessão de Fevereiro de 1976, incluido a montagem do estúdio na "Jungle Room". O problema é que a pessoa que possui essas fotos não irá, por motivo nenhum, ceder esstas fotos. Elvis disse a ele pessoalmente: " Você pode tirar algumas fotos, mas não deve nunca publica-las. Você tem que me dar sua palavra". Isso é o que essa pessoa me falou...ele irá honrar o desejo de Elvis...E acredite, eu tentei.
ECB: A julgar pelo que você sabe estar na mão de colecionadores e nos arquivos da BMG/SONY, voce acredita que ainda exista material capaz de supreender os fãs, seja filmagens, fotos ou audio?
Joseph Tunzi: Certamente! Existem muitos outtakes de "Elvis On Tour", fotos da sessão de gravação em Graceland, SACD ( SUPER AUDIO CD) do show da noite no Madison Square Garden...
II-Filmes Caseiros e Filmagens Profissionais e Amadoras.
ECB: Você acredita que talvez algumas emissoras de TV possuam filmagens profissionais de alguns concertos de Elvis na década de 70?
Joseph Tunzi: Com certeza. Usaremos algumas dessas filmagens no DVD Hot Shots And Cool Clips Vol 2.
ECB: O recente material pertinente ao filme "Thats The Way It Is" que vazou recentemente, traz uma performance incompleta de "The Next Step Is Love". que não estava listada no Sessions III. Você acredita que a filmagem completa esteja nos arquivos da Turner?( Fernando Souza)
Joseph Tunzi: Na verdade fiquei surpreso por esse pedaço existir, mas não posso acrescentar mais do que isso.
ECB: Temos disponível uma razoável quantidade de filmagens caseiras em 8mm dos anos 60 e alguma quantidade dos anos 50, mas nada da década de 70. Você acredita que existam mais filmagens caseiras das quais não temos ciência? Não parece ser um exagero imaginar que Joe Esposito ou algum outro membro da "máfia" continuasse a fazer essas filmagens, especialmente em festividades como Natal, aniversários, etc.
Joseph Tunzi: Filmes caseiros da década de 70 são poucos e escassos e francamente acho que Elvis mantinha a guarda para que elas não fossem feitas.
ECB: Em alguns dos filmes caseiros da década de 60, podemos ver Priscilla segurando outra câmera 8mm. Podemos supor, portanto, que existam mais filmagens caseiras deste período, que ainda não apareceram?
Joseph Tunzi: Posso lhe dizer que uma grande quantidade de filmagens 8mm existe, algumas espantosas para os fãs.
ECB: E sobre o filme The Pied Piper Of Cleveland? Esse deve ser provavelmente o material mais elusivo da biografia de Presley.
Joseph Tunzi: As filmagens de The Pied Piper Of Cleveland são o santo Graal do Rock ´n´Roll. Muitos pesquisadores não obtiveram sucesso em sua busca, mas novas evidências nos dão esperanças...Talvez algum dia.
ECB: Only You? Ela foi realmente gravada durante uma de suas apresentações no Hayride? ( Ana Clara Camargo)
Joseph Tunzi: Listei “Only You” pelo fato de Elvis a ter cantado durante alguns de seus shows no Hayride e embora nunca tenha afirmado que ela foi gravada, as chances de que tenha sido não podem ser ignoradas. Com alguma sorte, ela pode um dia aparecer. Sabemos quando e onde ele a cantou e em algum lugar deve existir um tape contendo essa performance.
III-Elvis Starring In Oklahoma, Hot Shots And Cool Clips Vol 2, E Projetos Futuros
ECB: Joseph, você poderia nos falar um pouco mais sobre seu último projeto, o livro Starring In Oklahoma? O que podemos esperar dele?
Joseph Tunzi: Elvis Starring in Oklahoma é um livro que leva você a primeira fila do show de abertura de sua nova turnê em Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. O livro terá mais de 90 fotos nunca antes publicadas do premiado fotógrafo George Wilson. Acredito que irá agradar muito aos fãs. ECB: Que tipo de projetos podemos esperar para o futuro?
Joseph Tunzi: Estaremos lançando sem dúvidas o livro definitivo a cores, em breve teremos Elvis Presley - Tickle Me e quem sabe, um livro bacana sobre os anos 50.
ECB: Você acredita que um projeto utilizando filmagens 8mm com imagem restaurada e som compatível possa um dia vir a ser realizado, talvez pela FTD por exemplo?
Joseph Tunzi: Não posso falar pela FTD mas acho que ela não lançaria filmagens amadoras com som dublado. Não na íntegra. Talvez uma faixa bônus aqui e ali não fosse uma má idéia...
ECB: Quase trinta anos se passaram desde a morte de Elvis e muitas coisas aconteceram desde então, com relação ao seu legado. Sua música foi relançada e "recatalogada" quase à exaustão. Novas canções e outtakes foram descobertos e lançados. O que você acredita que será o futuro de Elvis Presley? O que irá/pode ser feito para manter Elvis em foco nos anos vindouros? ( Douglas Hartung)
Joseph Tunzi: O futuro de Elvis Presley depende de 3 coisas: Número1: A EPE. Número 2: A gravadora. Número 3:Os fãs. E esse último é o mais importante. Acredito que está havendo um rejuvenescimento do "colecionismo" de Elvis, do material original de quando ele ainda era vivo. A e-Bay é parte essencial disto, oferencendo aos fãs quase tudo o que eles desejam. Devo dizer-lhes que particularmente não me interesso tanto pelo próximo FTD, quanto em achar um vinil raro ou outtake de estúdio, fotos inéditas...Acho que isso irá manter o interesse...O fato de sempre existir algo lá fora que irá fazer notícia, e tornar tudo isso divertido. O "mistério de Elvis" irá manter a chama acessa.

Não foi definido a ordem dos singles a serem lançados, mas o primeiro deve sair em agosto e finalizar em dezembro, com o lançamento da caixa completa. Aqui no Brasil, sei não...
Pois é, esses são os projetos para esse ano. Nada de DVD do On Tour, nada do projeto Anthology, nada de canções inéditas. Isso pode ser um sinal de que o material disponível no "estoque" da BMG não seja tão animador. Pode ser enfim, que o poço esteja secando e que dificilmente termos boas novas, a não ser que contamos com a boa vontade de alguns colecionadores particulares, que dizem ter algum material ainda inédito de Elvis...

SÃO PAULO - O cantor e web designer Adam Roman, de 17 anos, que diz ser o sósia mais jovem de Elvis Presley no Brasil, prepara as malas e o figurino de couro preto para sua primeira visita a Graceland, famosa mansão do astro na cidade de Memphis, no Estado norte-americano do Tennessee.
Adam vai com a mãe, Maristela, para os eventos que irão lembrar os 30 anos da morte de Elvis, na semana de 11 a 19 de agosto. O músico morreu aos 42 anos, em 16 de agosto, após um ataque cardíaco causado por overdose de remédios.
"Vai ser inexplicável, mas tenho uma ansiedade por coisas novas, músicas, imagens. Dizem que há 200 shows dele gravados e que nunca foram lançados", disse Adam, que canta na banda Elvis Back.
Ele pretende levar seu figurino de couro justo, réplica da roupa que Elvis usou no "show da volta", como ficou conhecida uma apresentação acústica de 1968.
Muitos outros brasileiros ansiosos começam a agilizar a viagem para a Elvis Week 2007, seja através de uma comunidade no site de relacionamentos Orkut ou tirando dúvidas em um Disk Elvis (11 9868 3231) criado há dois meses.
Dificuldade com vistos
"Das 10, 15 ligações que recebo diariamente, três são para perguntar sobre a viagem a Memphis", disse o criador do Disk Elvis, o editor de vídeo Laerte Machado, que já foi duas vezes a Graceland. Este ano, no entanto, ele ficará de fora. "Data redonda é sempre muita confusão, gente do mundo todo, tudo lotado e o calor é insuportável."
Com quatro meses de antecedência, cerca de 100 pessoas já mostraram interesse em participar da excursão de 6 a 18 de agosto organizada pelo empresário Marcelo Costa, que se dedica desde o final dos anos 1970 a eventos ligados a Elvis.
"Este ano, a questão do visto (para entrar nos EUA) está atrapalhando, levando muito tempo, e a maioria (dos turistas) é marinheiro de primeira viagem", disse Costa. "Muita gente fica dois, três anos juntando dinheiro, é coisa de sonho."
O ponto alto da Elvis Week será o show virtual de cerca de duas horas com os ex-músicos de Elvis tocando ao vivo e com o astro "cantando" em um grande telão, na noite do dia 17.
Há também a Noite das Velas, de 15 para 16, quando os fãs fazem vigília, em uma gigantesca fila até o túmulo de Elvis, em Graceland. O evento é transmitido online no site http://www.elvis.com.
Roteiro
O pacote de US$ 3 mil dólares para a excursão de Costa inclui avião, hospedagem e translados para eventos nas cidades de Memphis, onde fica o "santuário" Graceland, Tupelo, onde o músico nasceu, e Nashville, berço da música country e sede de estúdios famosos.
Entre algumas curiosidades do roteiro de Tupelo, estão visitas pelas escolas nas quais Elvis estudou, a loja onde ele comprou seu primeiro violão e o McDonald´s da cidade, único do mundo que é temático, em homenagem ao cantor e ator.
Em Memphis, além da mansão, os fãs costumam visitar o conjunto habitacional no qual Elvis e a família moraram quando chegaram na cidade, em 1949, chamado Lauderdale Courts, e o colégio no qual estudou, Humes High School. Em ambos, os moradores e estudantes levam os turistas para conhecer os espaços.

Foi anunciado o livreto com o sétimo volume da série da Shake Records "Tiger Man - An Alternate Anthology". Ainda não existem detalhes com relação às faixas que vão compor o CD, mas o selo diz que provavelmente teremos material oficial e inédito. Por enquanto, só nos resta aguardar.

Ben Weisman, foi que escreveu muitas músicas para Elvis, e está hospitalizado em Los Angeles - CA. Ele está lutando pela sua vida. A familia informou e pediu para que todos os fãs fizessem suas orações para ele, só um milagre pode salva-lo.
Weisman disse sobre Elvis: "Elvis era um homem muito espiritual. Ele teve um grande amor por Deus. Muito espiritual. Eu vi ele entre as tomadas de seus filmes. E nós eramos muito próximos. E nós tivemos uma grande amizade."
Ben e Elvis eram como se fossem Paul McCartney/John Lennon. Porém ele escrevia as letras e Elvis as interpretava. Agora nos resta rezar pela sua alma.

Charlie Hodge, era o ajudante de palco de Elvis. Charlie entregava os lenços e oferecia água para o rei.
Quando foi a primeira vez que ouviu o nome de Elvis Presley?
Wanda Jackson tinha completado sua turnê do Grand Olé Opry e disse: "Charlie, já ouviste falar de Elvis Presley? Parece que ninguém consegue acompanha-lo". Por isso, eu quis ver este jovem artista. Vi-o pela primeira vez no Ed Sullivan Show, cantando "Blue Moon of Kentucky" como nunca tinha ouvido antes. Deixou-me perplexo. Fiquei impressionado. Lembro-me de pensar que aquele tipo era o melhor. Ele simbolizava o inicio de uma nova era de estilo musical.
Quando conheceu Elvis pessoalmente?
Nos bastidores, em Memphis. Eu estava num espetáculo da estação de Televisão ABC, tinha o melhor grupo de gospel daquela época. E vocês sabem que Elvis adorava música gospel. Ele tinha ido aos bastidores para me conhecer, a mim e ao meu quarteto. Não voltei a vê-lo até ele ser destacado para servir o exército. Ele não me reconheceu. Eu tinha um corte de cabelo que era o meu melhor disfarce. Fui ter com ele e perguntei-lhe quando foi a última vez que ele tinha visto a Wanda. Ele olhou para mim e disse: "Hey, sua cara me parece familiar" e eu respondi: "Sou o Charlie, fui vocalista dos Foggy River Boys". "Hey, eu te via todos os sábados à noite" disse Elvis. Estão imaginando o Elvis a me ver???
Esteve com Elvis na Alemanha?
Sim, fomos ambos para Fort Hood. Mas nunca ficamos juntos no mesmo posto. Na viagem de trem para Jersey é que estivemos a conversar sobre pessoas que conhecíamos no mundo gospel. No navio para a Alemanha ele pediu-me para dividirmos o compartimento. Inicialmente, ele tinha sido colocado com uns sargentos para que as tropas não o aborrecessem, mas ele não conhecia ninguém. Então, ele foi ter com o capitão e pediu para ficarmos juntos e o resto, como se diz, é história.
Como Elvis era tratado no exército?
Lembro-me de uma vez estarmos todos a dormir, a comer e a viver no meio da neve e um coronel apareceu e disse a Elvis que ia para Miami a uma grande convenção e depois seguiria para Paris. Ele olhou para esse coronel e disse: "Senhor, estão aqui 15 mil homens que, tal como eu, estão dormindo debaixo do gelo e, para mim, abandona-los e ter este tratamento especial e depois voltar e olha-los no olho...não conseguiria fazer isso"...
Quais eram os músicos preferidos de Elvis?
Ele gostava de todos os tipos de música. Tinha muitos álbuns. Vários artistas de country, pop e gospel. Ouvia muitas vezes Mario Lanza. Mesmo em Memphis, quando era jovem, ia muitas vezes à um lugar chamado Blues Alley e passava horas ouvindo cantores de blues. Ele ouvia desde gospel até música sinfônica. Ele apreciava diferentes e variados estilos musicais. Mas adorava gospel, em especial J.D. Sumner. J.D. costumava deixar Elvis entrar nos bastidores para ver os Blackwood Bothers cantar. Naquele tempo, Elvis tão pobre que nem tinha dinheiro para ver o grupo atuar, por isso, J.D. deixava-o entrar. Elvis nunca esqueceu do que J.D. fez por ele...
Quais eram as influências de Elvis?
Vocês ficariam surpreendidos, ele usava certos sons, a que chamava a sua voz de Billy Erstein, na música "Fame and Fortune". Ele adorava a voz de Mario Lanza e conseguia mesmo cantar tão alto como ele. Elvis tinha uma extensão vocal de três oitavas, o que é fantástico para um cantor sem formação. Deixem-me que voz diga que ele nunca teve aulas de canto na vida. De qualquer maneira, a nota mais alta que o Mario Lanza conseguiu foi um Dó acima do Dó central e eu ouvi Elvis cantar um Dó acima muitas vezes em palco.
Qual era o álbum favorito de Elvis?
Elvis tinha uma grande variedade de álbuns. Acho que sua escolha iria recair em qualquer álbum gospel que ele gravou.
Você participou de vários filmes de Elvis, não foi?
Participei de "Clambake", no papel de barbeiro. Apareci fugazmente em "Charro", fazendo um mexicano, na cena em que Elvis aparece na cidade. Também entrei em "Stay Away Joe". Lembro-me de um episódio engraçado, onde numa cena de pancadaria dentro de casa. Elvis olhou para a porta da rua, onde eu estava com a banda. A câmera está a filmar Elvis do seu lado esquerdo e ele diz para tocarmos alguma coisa que estão a ter problemas dentro de casa e ambos desatamos a rir e isso não estava no roteiro. A razão para nós rirmos tanto, foi que estava muito frio e o nariz dele estava pingando. Numa outra cena, Elvis está perseguindo sua mãe, e ele pega nela e desata a rir. O que aconteceu foi que o Joe Espósito e eu estávamos ajoelhados no chão, fora do alcance da câmera. Joe disse: "Hey Charlie, agarra Elvis entre as pernas", eu respondi: "Não, agarra você". Elvis olhou para baixo e desatou a rir...
Como que era Las vegas?
Elvis não atuava ao vivo desde 1961, e a primeira vez que esteve em Vegas foi vaiado. Quando eu estava com ele, ficava parado e com um sorriso aberto e eu percebia que ele queria uma bebida. Recordo-me de uma jovem japonesa ter subido no palco, Elvis virou-se para ela e perguntou-lhe o que ela queria: um lenço ou um beijo. Ela olhou para ele e disse que não. Elvis perguntou novamente o que ela queria e a jovem disse James Burton. Elvis deu uma gargalhada estrondosa e acompanhou-a até ao James Burton que a beijou. Depois ficou em frente à Elvis. Ele perguntou se havia mais alguma coisa e ela disse que queria um lenço e um beijo. Elvis pôs o lenço em volta dela e ela pediu o beijo. "Charlie, - berrou Elvis - dê um beijo na jovem" e saiu rindo...
Onde estava quando Elvis morreu?
Fiquei em estado de choque. Ainda na noite anterior tínhamos ido ao dentista e lembro-me de Elvis estar brincalhão e divertindo-se. Ele estava ansioso pela nova turnê. Até tinha umas canções novas que queria cantar. Telefonei ao Felton jarvis, depois fui me deitar. Foi a última vez que eu vi Elvis vivo. Estava tudo correndo bem. Elvis tinha planejado começar a sua própria produtora para fazer filmes e escolher seus próprios roteiros.
Você tem a sua própria teoria sobre a causa da morte de Elvis?
A verdade é, e ninguém alguma vez me convencerá do contrário. É muito simples: Elvis teve um ataque cardíaco. Deus chamou-o e le foi. Deus o abençoe, Amém.
